Bolivar Hardeman County Library
The Bolivar Hardeman County Library was first organized and sponsored by the Tuesday Literary Club in 1954. The first location of the library was a small room located over the Hardeman County Bank at 103 N. Main St. Miss Lillias Bills began the first circulation of books in the county prior to the library. Once the library was established she donated her collection of several thousand books.
A year later the library was moved to the third floor of the County Courthouse and the sponsors were Hardeman County and the City of Bolivar. In 1961 the library moved to N. Main Street and was housed in the old Church of Christ building until November of 1976. The library then moved to its present location on North Washington Street. This move was to a new building with library specifications and funded equally by the County and the City of Bolivar.
In October of 1991 construction of the addition began and was completed in February 1992. 5,400 square feet was added, now with total square feet of 11,400. The library offers many services; children’s programs, wireless internet, magazine, audios, cake pans, videos, children’s books and a history room that contains Tennessee History and genealogy material.
