The Medal of Honor Recipient to Speak with Students and Veterans

The annual City of Bolivar Vietnam Veterans Celebration will feature a legendary retired Marine General who has made his mark on this country not just with the heroic actions that led to the Medal of Honor, but with what he continues to do.
Major General (ret) James Livingston was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions during the Vietnam War. It was his heroics on the battlefield and his intelligence off the battlefield that has been credited with saving countless lives.
He was awarded the Medal of Honor because, as a captain, Livingston refused medical attention after being injured twice by shrapnel during a battle, and then he was shot a third time which crippled him during battle. While he was no longer able to walk, he continued to encourage his Marines and advance them forward, eventually leading to an important victory in the war.
General Livingston also created the Desert Warfare Training Program during Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield that is used by the Marine Corps today to train troops for the Middle East. General Livingston will be the keynote speaker for the annual Vietnam Veterans Celebration, which will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at the Bolivar Army National Guard Armory, on Highway 65 beside Walmart.
A parade honoring the Vietnam Veterans will be held at 9 a.m. and will conclude at the armory. In addition, General Livingston will be speaking to the students at the schools in Hardeman County on Friday, March 3rd. He will be speaking at Bolivar Middle School, where the students from Toone, Hornsby, and Whiteville will also be in attendance. He will be at BMS at 9 a.m. Friday. After he finishes there, he will go to Middleton Highschool at 1 p.m. where he will speak to the students of MHS and MMS. "This is a rare opportunity for our area to have a man of this caliber, with this history... a true hero for our nation, to not only speak to our students, but also to be the speaker of our city's celebration," Bolivar Mayor Barrett Stevens said. "You don't get these opportunities very often and our city is excited and honored to host such a great individual.
A complete biography of General Livingston is available upon request. In addition, the book "Nobel Warrior" has been written about General Livingston- detailing the accounts of the events leading to his Medal of Honor and how lives were saved.

Bobby Martindale Memorial Library Announcement

Friday, January 27 was a remarkable day for the City of Grand Junction in the acquistion of a $100,000 construction grant issued by the State of Tennessee to kick of a project of moving their existing library to the former Grand Junction High School cafeteria.
Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Harget was on hand to make the delivery as well as State Senator Dolores Gresham, and State Representatives Johnny Shaw and Ron Gant.
The library will more than double in size with space for collections, computers and dedicated areas for children, teenagers and adults and parking will be tremendously increased.
