Jupiter Now
rosewood, stone, curly maple, 72x48x48
Collection of Dr. R.J. & Susan Moskop
A Memphis native, he completed his BFA at MCA in 1980 in sculpture and photography. His work is featured in numerous local private and corporate collections. Narrow strips of curly Maple wood make up the substructure of this piece reminiscent of an astronomical model or ancient astrolabe, once used by mariners to navigate the open seas led only by the stars. Pieces of Rosewood and stone are lashed together amongst these metaphorical trajectories to compose orbits of celestial bodies around the largest of planets in our solar system, Jupiter.
