Originally from Memphis, Huger Foote is an internationally collected photographer with works regularly featured in exhibitions nationwide and internationally. In this image, Foote was attracted by the distinct red hue of a vinyl sofa found inside a retired military ship. In the event of trouble, their bright color would aid in the search and rescue efforts of anyone using them as a flotation device in the open seas. Exploration and chance happenstance are recurring ideas that arise in Foote's work, as he discovers subjects by serendipity throughout his extensive travels around the world.
