Derrick Dent is an illustrator and professor at Memphis College of Art, where he also completed his BFA. He is also a co-founder of the Rozelle Artists Guild, an independent artists' collective based in Memphis that have produced numerous live painting events and semi-permanent murals throughout the city. Among its most noted projects is the annual Sketchbook project in which members of the public art provided a sketchbook and the results are formatted into an exhibition of local art. The image Jeff Keith Considers Youth was an illustration for an article about the lead singer of the band Tesla, Jeff Keith, recalling his younger days in a drab, uninspiring small town.
