Lurlynn Franklin is a Memphis native, who received her MFA in Painting from Memphis College of Art, and teaches in art in an elementary school in the Memphis City Schools system. Her vibrant, multi-patterned compositions often belie a satirical message, turning a critical eye on the social structures of her surroundings. Her work has received many recognitions and awards from various groups including The Bodine Company and the Tennessee Arts Commission.  In 2000, Lurlynn was chosen to paint the Memphis in May Festival Poster. For The Love of Cotton is a critique of wistful depictions of the 'Old South'.
