Artist John McIntire

From the collection of Parnell S. Lewis

John McIntire was a long serving sculpture professor at Memphis College of Art who has influenced numerous other local artists. He is widely collected by private individuals and corporate collections, and has featured in exhibitions nationwide. His Hudson (2004) and Two Figures (2001) demonstrate his masterful handling of marble, a material not common among the artists of Memphis. Their organic curves and elegant lines belie a sophisticated treatment of spatial organization reminiscent of the best of Modernist genius Constantin Brancusi, but embodies a sensibility of surface and form all his own.
