Born and raised in Shanghai, Yijun (Pixy) Liao is a fine art photographer currently living in Brooklyn, New York. Liao lived in Memphis from 2005-2008 to complete her MFA in Photography at the University of Memphis. During that time she exhibited her work extensively in shows with the Medicine Factory, Adam Shaw Gallery, L. Ross Gallery, and Lantana Projects. Her work has been shown internationally, and produced a solo exhibition entitled "Memphis, Tennessee" in 2011 at the Chinese American Art Council in New York.

This specific photograph entitled Disco (2008), depicts the legendary illuminated dance floor of Raiford's Hollywood club in Downtown Memphis. Framed in mirrors, with the occasional blast of fog, the rectangular tiles underfoot create a spectacle of yellow, red, white, purple, and pink that leaves an indelible impression of the local nightlife.
