Another example of the international scope of the Power House gallery (2003-2009), Nikki S. Lee came to Memphis to produce this work as a part of her ongoing project in which she assumes the character of another culture, in this case a new mother, Part 35. She poses with a partner who is cropped almost entirely eliminated from of the image, drawing focus to her fictionalized persona, and the theatricality of her portrayal. Lee is a Korean American artist living in New York City, who gained international notoriety for her work conflating alternating notions of identity.
