Sweet Jane
oil on linen, 55x59
From the collection of the artist, Laurel Sucsy
Sucsy received her BA from Bowdoin College in 1998 and her MFA from Tyler School of Art in 2002. She has participated in exhibitions locally and nationally for a number of years, while working as a professor of painting and drawing at Rhodes College. Sweet Jane, is influenced by her intricate observations of traditional landscape painting and the visual language by which they are constructed. Atmospheric and earthy, it blends layers of natural hues punctuated by bursts of red, yellow, and blue. Built up over long periods of time, their production is guided by an intuitive impulse, as if materializing from an abstract mist of ideas that compose the creative process.
