TWISTER
acrylic and mixed media on canvas, 30x 40
Courtesy of the artist, John Robinette
Twister is one in a series of paintings Robinette has been doing for the past thirteen years, inspired by images and scenarios of the Mississippi Delta landscape. Most of his work is very quiet and peaceful in mood, but he has also experimented with some of the more unsettling subjects such as the floods, storms and tornados that have been a part of the history of the Delta . "Twister" is one of those paintings Robinette describes as "an attempt to make something as horrifying as a tornado somehow appealing and peaceful to look at." Robinette is a 1966 graduate of Memphis College of Art, and has taught at that institution as well as the University of Memphis, while being featured in numerous area exhibitions and collections.
