Declan Clarke is an Irish video artist living in Berlin. His short film shot in Memphis in 2005 Bobby Buffaloe's Desoto , features an interviews with local barbecue cooks, and the antique car collector, Bobby Buffaloe, to recount the history of Memphis, from the arrival of Spanish conquistador Hernando DeSoto to the present day. Clarke came to Memphis during the Memphis in May festival when the honored country was the Republic of Ireland. His residency project was produced by Lantana Projects, a short-lived group whose mission was to host foreign artists in Memphis as a means of facilitating international dialogue through contemporary art.
