The Lamplighter Lounge is a landmark of the Memphis nightlife culture, known to artists, musicians, and locals as 'Midtown's Living Room'. The jukebox is one of the few in the city that still plays vinyl '45s records, and the late bar matron 'Miss Shirley' Williams was legendary for her big-hearted kindness tempered with stunning grit with those who conducted themselves improperly. Patterson made his Sound Affects series while living in Memphis to work as an assistant to esteemed photographer William Eggleston, taking the city and its deep, rich musical history as his muse.

An artist regularly featured in exhibitions across the country and internationally, Patterson bears witness to the vernacular architecture of a gathering place embraced by countless artists as a welcoming space to share ideas and plan their next projects.
