Untitled (Missing Lawrence) (2004), is part of a body of work derived from candid Polaroid snap-shots. Bishop would choose images that hinted to a narrative that existed beyond the frame that felt as if, "There was either something critical that happened right before that fragment of time, or that was about to occur. I was interested in really playing with the idea that the audience could complete the narrative, and I was simply trying to find images that had enough power to stimulate a story in the mind of the viewer."
A Memphis native, Bishop completed his BFA at Memphis College of Art and later served as its Director of Exhibitions before leaving the city to pursue a teaching career that led to his current position at Framingham State University in Massachusetts. He also served as Director and Curator of the Art Workers Union/Plan B Gallery in Memphis, an important alternative space for contemporary art by local and regional artists in the late 1990's.
